How This Latency Test Works

The test opens a TCP connection to each target’s well-known port and measures how long the handshake takes. Because a browser cannot send raw ICMP packets, this TCP time is the honest, close equivalent of a classic ping. And it reflects what actually matters when you load a website or download a file.

Global targets (Google, Cloudflare, Facebook, YouTube, Google DNS) represent international reachability, while the BDIX targets are private Bangladeshi IPs that only respond from inside a BDIX-peered network. Comparing the two groups is the quickest way to localise a network problem.

Reading the BDIX vs International Split

  • BDIX fast + international fast → your connection is healthy.
  • BDIX fast + international slow → the problem is international routing or your ISP’s international bandwidth, not your local line.
  • BDIX slow + international slow → look at your own line, Wi-Fi, or your ISP’s local network.
  • BDIX targets fail but international works → your ISP may not peer with BDIX, or the specific test IP is down.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Is This a Real Ping Test?

Browsers cannot send ICMP “ping” packets, so this tool measures TCP connect latency instead: the time to open a connection to a host’s well-known port. It is a very close proxy for real-world responsiveness and works without any plugin.

Why Do Results Come From “our Probe Host” Instead of My Device?

Some targets (especially BDIX private IPs) can only be reached from inside a Bangladeshi network, so the probe runs on our server. It tells you how the internet looks from our vantage point. Your own speed test and diagnostic tool measure your device directly.

What Is a Good Ping Time?

Under 40 ms is excellent, 40–120 ms is good, 120–250 ms is fair, and above 250 ms usually feels sluggish. For BDIX targets you should expect well under 50 ms if your ISP peers well.

What Is the Difference Between BDIX and International Latency?

BDIX traffic stays inside Bangladesh and should be very low latency (tens of milliseconds). International traffic has to travel to Singapore, Europe or the US, so it is naturally higher. Comparing the two columns shows you where a slowdown lives.

Why Does a Target Show “failed”?

The port did not respond within 4 seconds. The host may be down, the specific port may be blocked, or the route may be filtered. Try again in a moment: a single failure is not always a real outage.

Can This Test Measure Packet Loss or Jitter?

No. Packet loss and jitter require ICMP or many timed samples, which a browser cannot do. This tool reports a single TCP connect time per host; run it a few times to see how stable your latency is.
