How This IPv6 Test Works

First we fetch a normal dual-stack host (the control). If that succeeds, your basic internet is working and the test is valid. Next we fetch a host that only has an IPv6 address (AAAA record). If that fetch succeeds, your browser found and used an IPv6 path end to end.

We also read your current connection class from the server: if you are connected via IPv6 right now, that is shown directly. Many dual-stack users browse over IPv4 even when IPv6 is available, which is why the live IPv6 fetch is the more meaningful check.

How Do I Know If My Connection Supports IPv6?

Run this test. It tries to reach an IPv6-only host from your browser. If that succeeds, your device, router and ISP all have a working IPv6 path. If it fails while the normal IPv4 check succeeds, you are on IPv4 only.

What Is the Difference Between IPv4 and IPv6?

Why Is My IPv6 Test Failing Even Though My ISP Says I Have IPv6?

IPv6 must be enabled at every step: your ISP, your router, and your device (and sometimes your Wi-Fi settings). If any one link is missing, the test fails. Check your router settings and try on a mobile data connection as a second opinion.
