On October 20, 2009, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission granted GTV and many other privately held Bangladeshi television stations a license to broadcast, joining the ranks of other privately owned Bangladeshi television channels. The transmission began on an official basis on June 12th, 2012. GTV unveiled its new logo and motto, “Ja Dekhte Chan, Paben,” in June 2015, to coincide with the celebration of its third anniversary. The slogan literally translates to “You will get what you want to see.” GTV was one of the three television networks in Bangladesh to broadcast the 2016 Asia Cup for viewers there. The other two were Bangladesh Television and Maasranga Television.
The station broadcasts a diverse range of content, including not only the latest news but also movies, dramas, chat shows, sports, and more. This channel paid BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) a total of 1.56 billion (US$17 million) in 2014 to acquire the television broadcasting right for a period of six years (from 2014 to 2020). Additionally, it purchased the broadcasting rights to BPL from BCB in 2016. This station is owned by Gazi Group, which is controlled by Golam Dastagir Gazi, who is currently a minister and a member of the Bangladesh Awami League party, which is the ruling party in Bangladesh.
